ReplyDeleteI love vintage. I love giving vintage gifts, though it can be hard to know whether or not an item I love will be as beloved by someone else. I think that there is a sense of the "treasure hunt" in shopping vintage. And there's something about vintage that stirs the memories both for the giver and the receiver.

I love getting vintage gifts because they're usually something someone has put a lot of thought into -- and they're usually more unique than something you can find at Walmart!

Vintage makes for a fabulous gift because whether you are on the receiving or giving end you KNOW buying vintage means taking the time out to discover something unique and rich in history for that special someone. And for me knowing someone took time out of their busy lives to look for something special that either I collect or will treasure means a great deal.
ReplyDeleteOf course I also find it fascinating to think about the places a particular vintage item has traveled. It's a little like my favorite movie, "The Red Violin". Plus, in this world of mass production it's so nice to have something you're not going to see everywhere.

vintage has soul and has passed the test of time.
When I was a child my head turned for new things. But as I grew up I found myself appreciating the past a lot more and the items that went with it. Perhaps that is because the things I grew up with became vintage over time. But not just that when I think about it, because I also developed an interest in design from much older begone eras. In saying all that does that also mean that I have become vintage?

it's lovely to receive any sort of gift - but when it's vintage it becomes 10 times more special... at least to me.
i'd rather receive a $2 thrift store jewelry find that's truly "me", than a super expensive pair of diamond earrings.

ReplyDeleteoh my- this is the same design of a mug that my mom hag when we were growing up. my mom passed away 7 years ago and i've been looking for the perfect sentimental gift for my sister for valentines' day and this would be sooo perfect. she just got engaged and is so sad that mom isn't here to share this with us. i was going to get her flowerss, but this would mean so much more. please tell me where i can buy it if i don't win it!!
