surprise appearance . . .

So... as I was eating my morning cereal today and watching 'the Ellen show'... guess what? The 'What About You?' book was having a day in a sun! It's been a couple of years since I've contributed to that KLUTZ book. It was a fun project and it's nice to know that David Arquette and his daughter Coco love this book:)

wildwood . . .

How often, when you are trying to shop for other people do you come across unexpected treasures that you must have? For me, it's an 'every time' kind of occurrence. Last time it happened I was in Toronto, in a little 'hipster type' store (full of expensive little nothings) when I came across 'WILDWOOD'. I have not read any reviews (or even heard of it) but the illustrations (by Carson Ellis - and the book is peppered with them) were just so good - I had to buy the book by it's cover! No regrets. It turned out to be a great read, and I can't wait until the girls read it (ages 9 UP) and we could have a little chat about it:)

UP...

This arrived today to brighten my day and bring in the spirit of adventure! The Art of UP! The book has such a 'Mary Blair' feel to it... I had to get it.

Bowie Style in Print...

Hooray! The long awaited Print & Pattern book has finally made it's way to me.... and, it doesn't disappoint. Beautifully put together and full of fun patterns and designs - it's a lot to take in in one go. It's a fine addition to my inspiration library.
A lot of people whose work I admire are in this book and it's such an honour to be a part of it:)
Here are just a few of the fabulous designers that have contributed:

my little quest...

For a while now I've been on the look out for a book that will help me explain to my kids how they came about into existence. Sort of a 'first step into sex education' kind of book. Turns out it's a hard book to find if you are looking for no religious content and good illustrations. If you know of such book for little curious mind - please, let me know:) If not... well I would have to illustrate my own version of what happens:) That, of course, could be fun!
The pictures above are from a beautiful 1967 edition of 'Wonderfully Made'.... It's well written and beautifully illustrated, but, unfortunately, adds religion to science. It's a great source of humor and illustration inspiration to me, but not so much when it comes to unbiased version of 'birds and bees'  story:)

got my long stockings...

I have not been this exited about a book from my childhood since J. Otto illustrated Alice in wonderland. When one of my favorite illustrators does one of my favorite books... how could I resist?! That's a must have!
Lauren Child ( an author/illustrator behind Charlie and Lola series) - made my kind of Pippi! Fun, quirky and charming:)
It's snowed so much in past couple of days that the yellow buses have been cancelled and the gang is all here today. Looks like we'll be reading some of the famous Pippi adventures today.... and maybe even tomorrow...

cover illustration:)

I made this cover a little while ago for a wonderful book by Kristen Tracy (Random House Publishing) that's coming out in 2009. Since Lilla posted about it yesterday - I'm guessing it's OK to show you:) It was such pleasure to illustrate this quirky neat character 'Camille'! - it turned into one of my favorite covers:)

REX RAY

I first saw Rex Ray's work 10 years ago in a Metropolitan Home magazine. Up until then collage was nowhere near  my list of favorite media, but his work was so fresh and exciting - I've completely changed my mind about cut and paste:)
10 years later, Rex Ray is still one of my favorite artists. When I saw this book - REX RAY - ART + DESIGN - I couldn't pass it by. I had to have it! It's full of collage magic:) Check it out if you have a chance.
