fabrics at IKEA

I've been thinking of making curtains for the office. Something to mask the 5' of snow outside. Something cheerful! Turns out IKEA has some cute and inexpensive fabrics I really like. The little round trees pattern is a very good candidate for the job. Too bad Ottawa has the smallest IKEA in North America and I would have to order it via internet (I would have liked to see it in person first).

I know what you mean about seeing the fabrics in person... sometimes the cotton is so thin you can almost see through it (but not on purpose) and other times the scale really doesn't translate well on their website. I have been shocked at the size of some of their prints in the past!
Bibbi Forsman posted photos from an Ikea fashion show on her blog that will give you some reference to size here

Thanks April! That's just what I needed. The proportion of the pattern is hard to guess out of context. I thought the trees were much smaller. Neat dresses! Thanks! H:)

i actually just bought some ikea fabric last week. i bought some pernilla and partrica. the fabric is as great in person as it is on the site, but i was surprised at how big the circles are in the pernilla fabric - the width they show is 59 inches, so the circles are quite large.

I actually bought a purse on etsy that is made out of that black, white & grey trees & blooms fabric and I love it! It's pretty thick, like it's made to cover furniture.

It does look like an upholstery fabric. I was thinking of streching this kind of material on wooden frame and doing some thick wool threat embroidery on top.

Hey! I live about 3 minutes from an Ikea with lots of these new fabrics (in Toronto). Would you like me to hook you up with some swatches? Love your patterns, by the way! I recently discovered your blog- glad to find a super cool Canadian designer. Any chance your patterns will be available to buy as yardage? I'm a quiltmaker and always on the prowl for great prints...

Thanks Johanna! I am working on getting some of my patterns made into fabrics, paper goods and all sorts of other fun things:) As soon as the products would be available I would blog my buns off about it!
I would love to get hooked up with some ikea fabric swatches! Ottawa ikea does not carry fabric at all.
Please let me know what I could do to make it happen. My e-mail address is dardik@sympatico.ca
Thanks!!!
